Hip Huggers 1month-14 months

The care that infants receive during the first part of their lives greatly influence the way they view the world, relate to others, and succeed as learners.  When the care infants receive is nurturing, loving and consistent, they flourish.

In our Hip Hugger Room, the goal of our staff is to nurture each individual child with personal care.   The teachers work on building a trusting relationship with each child, creating environments that support exploration, and ensuring children’s health and safety.  The teachers guide learning in a way that lets children experience excitement, joy, and a sense of competence.

We believe that to serve very young children well, we must develop a meaningful partnership with their families. Families are always welcome and are encouraged to spend time in the classroom if they can.  Our infant teachers take time to talk with families each day.  They also fill out daily charts that let families know exactly what went on with the children throughout the day so that care can be continued at home.

Our Hip Hugger classroom is equipped with numerous developmentally appropriate materials and equipment to enable the children to learn and grow.  Although the classroom is large enough to serve eight babies, we choose to only serve four.  We feel that quality of care is more important than quantity of children.  Most of the activities and interactions with infants take place in the classroom.   We also have a stroller to take children on walks throughout the building or outside, when appropriate, to explore and learn about the world around them.
